Who are Gift of Sight?

Gift of Sight is the gift list from the international charity, Sightsavers.
 
For over 60 years Sightsavers has been preventing sight loss and restoring sight, as well as improving the lives of people who are irreversibly blind in some of the world's poorest countries.

There are 285 million visually impaired people in the world and, of those, 39 million people are blind. Yet up to 80% of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured.

We work with partners in over 30 countries to prevent blindness, restore sight and advocate for social inclusion and equal rights for people who are blind or who have low vision.

Our achievements

In the six decades since its foundation, Sightsavers has supported:

• Over 7.5 million operations to restore sight
• The distribution of 170 million Mectizan® treatments to prevent river blindness
• The training of nearly 800,000 primary eye care workers
• Five million cataract operations
• Rehabilitation training for almost 100,000 blind people
