A box of sutures

€12

Sutures are medical stitches that surgeons use during cataract surgery to hold the lens in place. They may be small, but they are essential for surgery.

Amina was completely blind and dependent on her family for everything. She was finally diagnosed with cataract in both eyes and had an operation where sutures played a vital part. When her bandages were removed, Amina was overcome with joy at being able to see again.

Unable to afford medical assistance, Amade suffered with cataract in both eyes for five years. He used to be a farmer but since becoming blind had come to rely on his children to support him.

Fortunately, Sightsavers was able to provide surgery free of charge.

Sutures played an important part in his cataract surgery, and after the operation Amade was delighted.
