Two trichiasis operations

€12

Trachoma is an infectious eye disease which affects millions of people in Africa and Asia today.

Repeated infections scar the eyelids and lead to trichiasis. This is when the eyelids turn inwards and the eyelashes scrape against the surface of the eye, causing incredible pain. It can eventually lead to permanent blindness.

Your gift could provide an operation to stop the pain and prevent blindness for two people - before it’s too late.

“I am very happy with the result. The pain of trichiasis was horrendous” 70-year-old Badetoye Eliyabu, Uganda

Mooltetiein suffered from the painful condition trichiasis which left her unable to look after her family.

To alleviate the pain, Mooltetiein would pluck out her eyelashes with a pair of tweezers which would relieve the discomfort for a little while, but they would soon grow back.

A quick operation was all it took for Mooltetiein to be free from pain and the threat of blindness. It also restored her independence, and enabled her to support her family again.

“I am looking forward to never using my tweezers on my eye again” 65-year-old Mooltetiein Salaash, Kenya

Eye care: Your gift will contribute to projects which restore sight and prevent sight loss.
