Regular screening sessions for school children are an effective way of spotting problems with sight early on.

Reaching children when they are young gives Sightsavers an improved chance of treating any problems and preventing permanent sight loss, and can reduce the risk of a child falling behind at school.

Screenings find that often children are ‘blind’ simply because they lack spectacles. Your gift could provide screening for 150 children and five pairs of glasses.

During a school screening, Anuj was diagnosed with cataract in both eyes and referred to hospital for surgery.

Up until then, Anuj had been struggling at school and wasn’t able to concentrate on his studies. As his sight deteriorated he became withdrawn and lost his confidence.

His mother could not afford the treatment that Anuj desperately needed. Fortunately, he was offered a free cataract operation and his vision was fully restored.
